Not-So-Sweet Truth Behind Sugary Beverages
Sugar-sweetened drinks go down easy, but they can be hard on your health, according to new research.
Women who drink two or more sugar-sweetened beverages a day have expanding waistlines, high triglycerides and an increased risk for type 2 diabetes, suggests a study that looked at 4,166 middle-age or older women.
Surprisingly, even women who didn’t gain weight saw increased health risks linked to their beverage choices, according to the findings recently presented at a conference of the American Heart Association.
Researchers haven’t determined, however, how sugar-sweetened beverages influence cardiovascular risk in people who don’t gain weight.
